Feed Hay and Forage Testing

The Environment and Nutrition Department offer a range of nutritional testing services for all sectors to include testing of grasses, forage, cereals, compound feeds and supplements. The old adage “They are what they eat” is very relevant and we can test samples of hard feed, hay, haylage, grass and water for both hygiene and nutritional quality.

We recommend pre-purchase analysis of forage to ensure clients are getting value for money and a forage suitable to the needs to their horses. We also recommend that forages are monitored regularly during storage as they can change from suitable to unsuitable very quickly if stored poorly under certain conditions.

The Environment and Nutrition Department works with the farming community in ensuring the best possible standard of feed and fodder is available to the equine community. This is achieved by giving advice on improving methods of preservation and storage as well as pre-sale testing of produce. We also offer advisory services to feed production units in terms of feed quality manufacture and quality sampling.
